The Hügge Impact
Powered by the sun. Rooted in nature.
Driven by the Sun
We have a lot of wet dreams at Hügge! One of these is a dream to achieve 100% solar self-sufficiency by 2028 at the latest. Currently we are at 42 % and save 50 tonnes of CO₂ yearly which equals about 100% better vibes.
Our rooftops are now completely packed with photovoltaic panels ( and of course a 170 m2 rooftop terrace that we desperately need for drinking beer ) so the second stage of our solar adventure is to buy a big agricultural plot in the Paphos region and mount some delicious panels out there.
Cyprus has a Virtual Net Billing programme - roughly meaning you can produce solar power in one location and consume the power in another location.
We are working on this with our awesome local partners from Sun Technology and hope to complete the project as fast as humanly ( read: CY bureaucracy ) possible.
Impact roadmap
Besides green solar power we absolutely love plants. Not only are they great for our climate - whether inside or outside - they are real pretty you know!
We already have big plants and beautiful flowers wherever we can get away it and have more plant projects in the pipeline.
35 m2 plant wall
In cooperation with the Danish company Nature Impact we are constructing a huge outside plant wall close to the Hügge reception entrance. This is scheduled for October 2026.
On top of looking freaky cool this will absorb over 70 kg of CO₂ and generate over 60 kg of fresh oxygen annually.
Sedum Green Roof
If you think a plant wall is cool just wait till you see the 130 m2 sedum roof we are planning to install under our solar panels in early 2027.
The sedum rooftop will act as a natural carbon sink and building insulator. It directly sequesters over 200 kg of CO₂ annually while capturing rainwater and cutting cooling energy demands - keeping our space naturally comfortable from above.
